VOLUNTEER

There are many ways to volunteer in the youth program; several volunteer opportunities are described below. If you have a heart for students and want to serve, please contact Frank Newburn, fnewburn@wesley-umc.com, or Stacy Ash, sash@wesley-umc.com.

Sunday School

Adults are needed:

  • as co-leaders and substitute leaders with Frank Newburn in the Senior High class,
  • as substitute leaders with Darcy Bogle, Stacy Ash, and Josh Houtzel in the 8th-grade class,
  • and as leaders and co-leaders for the 6th/7th grade combined class.

All materials, training and co-leaders are provided.

Small group leaders and co-leaders

Adults are needed to help facilitate small groups on Wednesday evenings from 7:00 - 8:00. Small groups are divided by age and gender. Group leaders are needed, but adults can also serve as a secondary adult presence and request not to lead. Adults committing to Wednesdays also attend a monthly adult youth leader meeting. Curriculum, resources, training and adult study and support provided.

Fundraising Coordinators

Fundraisers are necessary to raise money for summer mission and spiritual growth events. Adults are needed to coordinate individual fundraisers - with help from the Directors.

Mailings

A mailed newsletter will be sent from the youth program every August. If you can help stuff envelopes, please let us know. There may be additional mailings throughout the year that we need help with as well.

Tutoring / Homework Help Room

Adults are needed to help staff the Homework Help Room. The room is open on Wednesday evenings as needed from 5:00 - 6:00 in the Jr High Youth Lounge. Students can bring their dinner in, and sit in a quiet room to do homework. They can also find help with assignments from willing adults. If you can sit in the room as an adult presence, or if you can help out with homework every Wednesday - or even just one Wednesday per month - please let Stacy Ash know. Also, if you are a student and you know you need help with a specific subject - let Stacy know because we have adults that are good at specific subjects that we can call on.

Rent-A-Youth

Fall and Spring Yard Clean-up & chores, students will perform various yard and house chores as a community service and fundraiser for youth missions. Adults are needed to work with the students at work sites, and to help with driving.

Photo Archiving

Adults needed to help archive youth event photos into photo albums.

Event Photography

Adults needed to take photos at youth events, develop and print those photos, and save those photos onto CDs for archiving.
